Come and enjoy Nidderdale from my dog friendly, waterside mill cottage

Situated in the lower Yorkshire Dales, Nidderdale is often called the "forgotten Dale"—a hidden gem waiting to be explored by foot or car.

Love nature, fresh air and breathtaking landscapes?

Would you like some help to see the best of the area? My self-guided, local tour information leaflets will help! With many walks, local attractions, historic sites and my recommendations for where to shop and eat locally, it's all here for you. The area is perfect for all ages - whether on two feet or four!

As my guest, I'm delighted to also offer you fantastic opportunities for bird watching walks, talks and reserve visits with our local experts. Come and experience something a bit different in Nidderdale – you might discover a new hobby!

Unwind at the end of each day, with a delicious homemade meal, served with warm smiles, at one of our charming country pubs or cafés. And don’t forget to look up at night—our unspoiled skies are filled with stars, completely free from light pollution!

Sleep well in our very comfortable beds, ready for more adventures the next day.

Flax Mill Cottage is set within the historic Glasshouses Mill, a former flax and rope mill dating back to the 1800s, with ties to the local community.

Perched on the banks of the River Nidd, next to the beautiful Glasshouses Dam, this charming holiday cottage in the Yorkshire Dales offers a tranquil getaway for up to four guests and two dogs.

Redeveloped in 2020, the mill properties retain the sense of the past, but enjoy the modern conveniences of the present. Flax Mill Cottage has three floors and boasts two beautiful bedrooms; a stunning top floor with vaulted ceiling, KS bed and en-suite and a twin room with bathroom alongside on the middle floor. A well equipped kitchen, dining area and lounge complete the ground floor. Outside, there is a secure patio garden and allocated parking.

Picture yourself here — sitting in these peaceful surroundings, cup of coffee, or glass of wine in hand, watching the birds in flight around the mill.

Glasshouses Dam

A few steps from the cottage leads to the water's edge of the River Nidd and Glasshouses Dam, which once fed the mill. Now a haven for wildlife, this tranquil stretch of water is a pleasure to walk alongside with your dogs, or simply sit and admire.
Come and immerse yourself in this little part of Nidderdale and soak up the atmosphere.
(You'll find a small bag of duck food in the cottage, if you wish to feed the ducks!)
