Bird watching guided walks, talks and reserve visits

Whether you're a serious bird-watcher, or simply have a general interest in birds and would like to experience something new, we have some great opportunities here in Nidderdale!

Nidderdale hosts a wide variety of birds, due to the vast array of habitat available here. We have woodland, moorland, wetlands, fields and meadows, hills and valleys - a bit of everything (well actually, quite a lot!).
You could see anything from a tiny Wren, to a Red Kite, Buzzard, or even an Osprey. (Around the Mill itself, Tawny owls, Barn Owls and Kingfishers are sometimes spotted, along with the various birds on Glasshouses dam.)

As a member of  the Nidderdale Birdwatching Group, my guests can benefit from their lovely guided walks, talks and Reserve visits - at little, or no cost. Just choose which events appeal to you and join in! There's no age restrictions.

Events are held both daytime and evening, with some talking place at weekends. During the winter months there are monthly indoor meetings, with guest speakers showing slides of interest. A small fee to cover the cost of the hall and refreshments, is all that is requested.

As a member, I will receive a copy of the Bird Report for the previous year's sightings within Nidderdale, which will have lots of information on where respective species were seen throughout the year.
I will also receive periodic updates/newsletters and access to the ad-hoc blogs from 'Nidd Birders'. These give additional information on local sightings and info/photos from recent events. It also gives access to the archives for all past events and sightings.
All of the above I will make available to you in Flax Mill Cottage.

There is also free access to the library (at Nidderdale Plus) of mainly bird and some natural history books - both local, national and international.
